Fast Forward Six Exciting Months

Our chubby cheeks turned SIX months on 2nd April 2011!
6mos birthday balloons and a yummy choc mud pie

Distracted by the balloons

And again
  • You were 63.5 cm tall and 7.2 kg a month ago.
  • You are a good sleeper… we put you down at 7.30pm, you wake up once in the middle of the night a milk top-up and continue sleeping till 6.30-7am.
  • You are such a morning person. You wake up with a smile every morning and that is mummy and daddy’s favourite part of the day.

  • Despite being with you 24/7 everyday, I still miss you terribly when you go to bed. I look forward to waking up to your lovely smile.
  • Day nap times are short and sweet, once in the morning for an hour and another after lunch.
  • You refuse to have your milk from the bottle, a true breast fed baby.
  • Started to wean you on solids, you absolutely love carrots (daddy’s favourite too) and apple sauce. Everything is organic and home made. You are still on single fruit/vege purees… can’t wait to start exploring your taste buds in a week’s time with combos.
Yummy!
  • You join us during meal times and sit at the head of the table (daddy has been demoted!).

  • You rolled over for the first time a week after you turned six months. Once you mastered it, you showed off at Tok Ayah’s (grandpa) in front of the whole family. Everyone cheered and you loved the attention.
  • You continue to babble and babble…. Even when you wanna call out for mummy and daddy, you don’t bother crying anymore. You just go “Eiii… Oooi… Kekeke” which is so adorable.
  • Like most babies, your attention span is very short...

Ok mummy let's move on from this
  • Bath time is your favourite time of the day. You love to splash about with your rubber duckies. Mummy and daddy specially installed a huge mirror by the side of your bath so you can admire the “baby” on the other side.
  • Just started you on Gymboree classes. You love interacting with other babies. Somehow you recognize the regulars baby Martin, Liam and Jayden, and mummy will squeeze in a quick catch-up and compare-notes session with their mummies.
  • Balloons fascinate you. You will try to grab it and when you do, you go on fifth gear and shake it non stop. You can even untangle an animal-shaped twisted balloon.
  • You love to tuck in your lower lip... again just like daddy. It is the cutest look ever.
    • You recently discovered if you give a "Pleaseeeeee carry me, pleaseeeeee" look while you are in your stroller... someone will. That someone is certainly not mummy. Daddy falls for it every single time!
    Hmmmm

    Carry me!
    • You are a true traveller. You have been to Melbourne and Singapore in less than two months and you slept through both flights like a contented baby.
    • Your biggest fan is Tok Ayah. He managed to get the biggest laugh out of you recently. He continues to visit you every other day and you dote on the undivided love and attention he gives you.

    • You continue to have the chubbiest cheeks ever and it is definitely a show stopper. Mummy loves burying my kisses in your cheeks until they turn pink!
    • Faeq, Happy Six Month Birthday my little precious. You are half way there and every day I feel blessed to have you in my life. You continue to make mummy smile and I enjoy each and every milestone you are going through.

    The Big Day!

I was scheduled for a c-sec as Faeq was mainly in a breach position throughout my pregnancy. J and I checked into PCMC the night before (October 1st, 2010) at 9.30pm. We were accompanied by my mom and my in laws. We were super nervous and excited at the same time. As this was my first pregnancy, I had no idea what to expect. So we called it a night at 11pm as my surgery was scheduled at 8am the next day. I must have slept only for a couple of hours as anxiety took over. At 6.30am the nurses came in and prepped me for the surgery. Dr A came in around 7.30am to brief me on the procedure and as usual his calmness assured me everything was going to be ok. That was what I loved about Dr A. As they were about to wheel me to the OT, my mom and sister in law arrived. It was so nice to see their faces just before going in and knowing they were waiting for me outside made me calmer. J also had to be prepped in his scrubs outfit.

Finally I was in the OT at 8.00am and the person I was most looking forward to see was my anesthesiologist! He gave me a spinal block to num my lower half for the c-sec. The procedure wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I was in a sitting position leaning forward when the needle was inserted. It was a mere tingly feeling on my lower back. Then I laid down on the operating theatre and anxiously waited for Dr A. J was by my side and was completely focused which was quite sweet. Suddenly a male nurse made the funniest comment. He said 'You can look to your right and enjoy the Petronas Twin Towers view', which was when I realised the OT had a view. Of course at that point I didn't care about the view, even if it was facing Niagara Falls! Dr A finally arrived and started immediately. My heart was pounding so fast, I was finding it hard to breathe. I had to do my breathing exercise as if I was having a vaginal delivery to keep myself calm which was quite funny. Within minutes, the baby was out! I didn't feel any tugging or movement, so it caught me by surprise when J suddenly said "It's our son". Then I heard the cry. Tears just filled my eyes as I heard him and when the pediatrician brought him over, I gave our son the first kiss.

On October, 2nd 2010 Faeq was brought into this world at 8.17am and weighed 2.6kg and 45cm long.

    Bringing our baby home

Everything about him was perfect. His tiny toes and little fingers, his ribbon lips, his thick black hair, his cute little nose… As I held him in my arms, all I could think was he is ours… all ours. It’s the most amazing and surreal feeling to finally see him after nine months of carrying him inside of me.
    Our new love

From that day onwards our lives changed. Faeq, your presence in our lives has made us feel so complete. Mummy and daddy promise to give you life, to raise you the best way we know how, to protect you, to give you all your needs and to love you forever.

    Nine Sweet Months

Month 1 – J and I had the biggest twinkle in our eyes, knowing we were pregnant was the best feeling ever. The first challenge was keeping the big news a secret, especially from our dearest and closest family members and friends.

Month 2 – At this point the closest contact I had with my unborn baby was his heartbeat during our first ultrasound. It was a very emotional experience as it finally hit me that I was carrying this precious life inside of me. We announced the baby news to our family!

Month 3 – Morning and evening sickness was in full swing! I was feeling waaaay under the weather for the next six weeks and all I wanted to do was curl up in bed. Began researching hospitals and obgyns, and finally decided on Dr. A at Prince Court Medical Centre.

Month 4 – Did I forget to mention that J took a photo of my side belly profile every single day for the whole 9 months! Daddy-to-be was very excited as you can imagine. Towards the end of this month things took a turn and goodbye nausea! This was when we broke the news to the rest of the world… what a relief.

    Month 5 – The next surprise… we're expecting a boy!

    Month 6-8:
    • No morning/evening sickness
    • Shopped for a new wardrobe
    • Started preggy yoga to keep in shape
    • Everyone was so accommodating. The attention was overwhelming but I quickly got used to it.
    • Luckily for J, no cravings what so ever.
    • Baby was a real mover and shaker.

    The not-so-fun bit…
    •        Having to use the loo multiple times in the middle of the night. Perhaps this was my body’s way of preparing me for the sleepless nights once the little one arrives.
    •         A constant strain on my back made it impossible to find the perfect sleeping position.

Month 8: Exciting times – we started buying the furniture for the nursery, some basic necessities for mummy and baby, packed the hospital bag which was a whole suitcase and even did a test drive with the car seat strapped in.

Month 9 – As the big day approaches…

    The Plus Sign

One of the most memorable dates is the eve of Valentine’s 2010. Jay and I never really celebrate V-day as it’s really a Hallmark thing. But 2010 gave us a reason to be surrounded by more love, cuddles and happy tears. In the early hours of February 13th I took a pregnancy test… it was positive! Woke Jay up and the next thing we knew, we were jumping for joy. We have never been happier. It was so surreal. Only after a second positive pregnancy test and a blood test at the doc’s was when we actually realized… we were having a baby!

After hearing the strong heartbeat two weeks later, we broke the news to our dearest family. Watching them smile, cheer and cry was the next best thing.

    Should I?

Ola! This marks my first blog post.  I actively follow a long list of bloggers and am always very proud when I find the most unique written blogs out there, from home organization to life experiences, travel… to anything and everything. When I debate or share my thoughts with family and friends, I almost certainly will refer to blogs as my source of info.

So the big question is… should I start one of my own? Early this year I decided to take the BIG step and the main driver without a doubt is my baby boy. Exactly five months ago, my husband and I were blessed with a healthy and perfect bundle of joy. No words can describe how my life has changed. Here is where I would like to share my experience as a first time mother and as I take the mummy steps through motherhood.

Faeq, you are the love of my life (besides daddy of course) and this blog is dedicated to you - to document your milestones and adventures as I watch you grow every day. Pleaseeeeee take your time!
